Why I Blog: 7 Years

People always ask me, how is it that I post a recipe almost 5 days a week on this blog for the past 7 years? Do you ever sleep?

The answer is: I must be crazy.

I cook early mornings when I am most creative, and then late at night, after 10 pm.

It's just my thing, 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.

The truth is, cooking relaxes me.
Quiet kitchen. No music. No tv.
Just me and the food.

I don't always have the time to write out the recipe, and I certainly don't have a food studio for photographing all the food I prepare.

My studio is my kitchen counter in front of the window in the natural daylight by the coffee maker, or if the light is right, in front of my wood pile outside on a tree stump.

I have never claimed to be a chef, just a home cook.

I'm not a nutritionist, but have good sense when it comes to what to eat and what NOT to eat.

You can take what I say with a grain of salt (hopefully, Maldon sea salt).

Why do I blog? (I hate that word, it sounds like BLOB).

I do it because I like to share.

I love food and love people.

I love cooking and watching people eat and enjoying the things I prepare.

Food is like love.

I love food.

I work for food, cause the pay stinks.

I wish I had gone to culinary school when I was 17 instead of college which did nothing for me.
It's never too late, but at 50 years old, I don't want to be the oldest one in the classroom, and the one without tattoos.

Why do I blog?
Because I love it.
It's my creative outlet and gives me something to look forward to on a daily basis.

Thanks for reading me.

I am happy to know you for 7 years.

I appreciate your efforts. I read your "column" ( good sub for blog?) every day. I don't like everything that you make but then you probably wouldn't like everything that I make. It's still interesting to read and sometimes it nudges me in a new direction. I agree about cooking school, sigh. I always wondered how people in cooking school handle tasting things that they can not stand...for me, beets taste like dirt!

Keep cooking!

LOL! I am with you on the cooking school as well. I could care less about age or tattoos but fitting it in with my existing career (that I hate) just sounds exhausting. I can't afford to drop everything and start over. So I keep on keeping on. And I have to agree with the above poster, beets = dirt (no offense, I know you love them) and radishes = spicy dirt. To each his own.

I love your recipes and I love your stories! And I love beets!!!

You’re a regular stop for me each morning… Suzette (of Cripes Suzette) once posted one of your zucchini items (I can’t even recall what it was) and remarked that every recipe you posted was good. Quite a recommendation!

I enjoy you and your take on food, though I too don’t agree with everything. Not as much into grains as you are. But your column is fun to read. (And I love both beets and radishes, so there!)

Wishing you another Happy New Year!
And I am SO glad you do! Happy anniversary.
Sam

PS
I don't like the name "blog" either, or worse "blogger." Wish we could come up with some other name for what we do.

Congratulations on seven years. I like your blog because it’s short, sweet and funny. It’s the only one I read because I find all the others to be way too wordy and way too self involved. I too love to cook and eat good food. I enjoy your recipes because the ones I’ve made are very simple and very tasty, especially the cakes. I raise my glass to you for another 7 years. ☺

If you WERE going to get a tattoo, and I know that you're NOT going to get a tattoo, what would it be?

Where would it be?

I play this silly game with myself sometime.

In reality, I share your distaste for the darn things.

Which I believe makes us officially old fogies.

Happy Lucky 7, Ms. Snacks!

Congrats, Sta!

Unlike many of your readers, I've had the unique pleasure of sitting in your various kitchens over the last twenty-five years watching you create your food magic, I can truly say, there are very few places in the world I'd rather be than inside the loving embrace of your antiques-filled kitchen. There is always a treat and good chat to be found. I remember the day you started the blog. You showed me up in Henry's office. It struck me as the perfect venue to share the wonderful things you create. Your blog has been my go to place for my daily dose of Sta with the added benefit of your kitchen magic that even I can make. I'm very proud of all you've accomplished, and this wonderful gift you've been able to share (not to mention the secret potato salad recipe!)

Here's to another 7 years and beyond....

Love,
Z

Keep it up! When people ask me where I got the recipe for the wonderful food they're eating, lately the answer is usually "Stacey Snacks." And that college education was not wasted. You're a clever, knowledgeable, and articulate writer - which makes your blog all the more enjoyable for all of us.

We're all so glad you do what you do, and hope you continue to do it for a long time. I also wish that I had gone to culinary school (in France). Wish I had known back then what I know now...

Although I've never left a comment I must shout out how much I enjoy reading your blog. Congrats on seven years and looking forward to seven more!
Cheers Stacey!
I am so glad you blog.
I am still at that "I don't want to tell anyone I know that I blog" stage. Sad to say, I seldom mention it to my hubby. He knows I DO STUFF on the computer besides working with my Angel Mom's And Dad's. I have mentioned that I need to Blog something. He never asks ...so I seldom say anything.
Please keep doing what you do best.
Happy Fourth Of July. Sarah

Even though the recipes you post are amazing, my real guilty pleasure is reading how you sound them out. Even if the subject isn't something I'm really into, I read anyway to see what funny, clever and down right laugh out loud thing you're going to say. Quite a gift, Stacey. Thanks for the entertainment (oh...and the recipes, too!). xx
