Militant Community Garden Harvest #4: Broccoli & NO SMOKING!
It's so much fun to watch the progress each week in our garden, something new sprouts up and amazes us each time we visit. It's a 15 minute drive from our home to the community garden, so we usually only go on Sundays to harvest and tend to our plots.
Today, we have a lot of broccoli, so get ready for some recipes.
I guess broccoli bites and broccoli salads are in order (click on links for the recipes).
And for your reading pleasure, more inspirational emails from the people in charge of our community garden.
People, I can't make this stuff up.
"Hi Everyone,
Someone was seen smoking last evening on the east side of the Community Garden. So this is a reminder that smoking is NOT PERMITTED in the Community/Giving gardens. This rule is clearly detailed in the garden rules everyone has read. If any plot renter or guest of a plot renter is smoking in the garden, you are on a very fast track to losing your plot. If any person sees a smoker in the gardens let one of the garden staff know which plot they may be associated with and one of us will look into it."
After we received this email, an email followed telling us how tobacco mosaic virus kills tomato plants (it was from a gardening journal with scientific facts).
I detest cigarette smoking as a rule, but come on, as my husband said, how many old Italian grandfathers tended to their tomato gardens with a butt in their mouth?
Nuff said.
