4th of July Random Bites

Can you believe it's 4th of July weekend already? It seemed like we were just complaining about all the snow.

It's time for Caprese Salads, however you want to serve them up, just make sure you are using the freshest mozzarella packed in water and in season ripe tomatoes please. There's nothing worse than an unripe tomato. Yuck.

I hope you are enjoying al fresco dining, the beach, picnics and potato salad.

I love my classic potato salad and don't like to deviate from the recipe. It's my favorite.

July 4th weekend is time to make my annual batch of cherry chutney using my friend Martha's just picked cherries from her Hudson, NY orchard. This year she delivered the first of the season white cherries (with a pretty yellowish/red hue).

This year I added candied ginger to the recipe and it turned out great.

It's time for swimming, biking, fishing and playing outside.

.....and my first cherry tomato of the season born this week!

It's also time to arrangea my Hydrangea!

My favorite summer cocktail at the moment is a Hendrick's Gin w/ a splash of St. Germain elderflower liquor, a lime and some lavender from the garden! Flowery and fresh.

I hope you have a fun, safe Fourth of July weekend. Enjoy!

Thanks for your wonderful posts....You have really inspired me to cook (and bake) more.I made the blueberry cake yesterday, and the strawberry cake last weekend. (strawberry our favorite). My hubby loves Caprese, but our garden tomatoes are not ready so I'll hit the farmer's market this AM here in the SF Bay Area....Thanks for all the recipes and enjoyment. Happy 4th...

I don't know what I love most - this post or MIL's reaction to it. The shot of the little boy with the swimming goggles is adorable. I just got home last night and my hydrangeas are blooming like crazy too, but so heavy with blooms they're falling all over the place. I ate my fair share of caprese salads while I was away, but yours looks as good, if not better than some of them I ate in Italy. Hope you had a happy 4th!
