Baseball Bites



I could care less about professional sports.

I am a member of a family who loves the NFL, the MLB, the PGA, and the NHL. (The NBA is the only sport they don't watch regularly).

I don't participate in sports (though I have taken golf lessons.....I stink at it), and I don't watch sports on television.
While my husband is glued to the tv, you know where to find me.
(In the kitchen, in case you weren't sure of the answer).

I went to the new Citi Field in Queens, NY, the city where I was born, and the new home of the NY Mets baseball team, with my guys (husband, dad, brother).



Not to watch them play, but for the FOOD.

There has been so much hype about the food at the new stadium. The restaurateur, Danny Meyer (of Union Square Cafe and Gramercy Tavern fame) has his well known BBQ restaurant Blue Smoke at the ball park, as well as the famous NYC hamburger joint, Shake Shack. Both places had long lines.

Here are the highlights.....................



Delicious, Italian sausage sandwiches on great rolls with peppers and onions from Mama's in Corona, cannolis from a real Italian bakery and great NY pizza, even though $5.75 for one slice was pretty steep. There was even a top notch sushi place!

Citi Field lived up to all of its expectations. Great food, a beautiful stadium and a great way to spend the day with my family.



Oh yeah, who won the game? I have no idea. I was too busy eating!

You may have convinced me that it's worth developing an interest in pro-sports. That food is a far cry from the old "dirty water dog."

Stacey!! The Yankees finally squeaked it out last night. But I'm like you and typically am in the kitchen while the rest of the family watches all the games. That photo of you is adorable - and your family looks pretty darn handsome too!

You and Henry look gorgeous - as always! Can't believe that's your little brother! I almost fell off my chair! I still picture the twins around 8 years old! Scary!

We're headed to Citizen's Park in 2 weeks for the Phillie's game and I am looking forward to a big ass cheesesteak at Tony Luke's!

Mmmmnnn! The Phila stadium has some good food but no where near what Citifield has. My brother has been telling me about it. We tried to go to Shake Shack when in NYC but the line was really long and the kids were really hungry.

I've never been to such events, sounds wonderful though if the food they have like the one you picture here. I'd go all the time for the food too.

I can't believe the food they have~ Wow! I do the same thing at games- go for the food and people watch! As I said before, you look gorgeous! Good looking family!

Look how gorgeous you are! I used to bring my knitting to baseball games because, if I was going to be sitting for that long, I wanted to at least be doing something. People around me used to give me a hard time. Now I just let my husband go and I stay home. There isn't any good food in our stadium anyway!

Dahling, you look mah-velous! I'm with you, on sports...except for golf. I stink at golf, but still... I met my husband on the golf course. Who knew that such great food could be found at a sports stadium. The fries made my mouth water--they're a drug to me.

Hahahah sometimes watching the game is all about who you're with and what you're eating, more than the game itself! It looks like you had a lovely, sunny day, plenty of good company and yummy snacks! Couldn't ask for more!

Am I the only guy on this site??? The food at CitiField looks great compared to Yankee Stadium. Very disapponting. Especially the Italian food. The garlic fries were the best I've had anywhere though. Had them in The Ballpark Formally Known As PacBell and Safeco Field in Seattle as well. I'm really looking forward to visiting Citi on June 11th with my family. I may not even watch the game. As far as the Phillies park goes Lisa, they may not have the quality and selection of food that Citi does, but they have one of the world's greatest sandwiches; Tony Luke's Roast Pork Italian.

Ha ha ha! I am the same way! I do not care a thing about sport!!! Unless the white stuff is fluffy and powdery and my skis are well waxed.... But watching them on TV. That is somewhere near torture. I go for the FOOD too! It all looks soooo good.

You're too funny :) I've gotten more into sports since the family is ga ga over baseball & football. We had to buy a special tv package just to see all of the Red Sox games & we have season tix to the Charger's. I'm w/ you though... the food is where it's at!

I'm not much of a sports fan either. But I love going to baseball games for the exact same reason. The food. Here in Pittsburgh, the baseball stadium sells an all-you-can-eat ticket where you get go to the concession stand as many times as you want for one price. It's a pretty groovy time considering the fact I don't even know the name of the Pittsburgh baseball team.

Even though I am a huge Mets fan, I have yet to be to a game at the new stadium. Glad to hear the food is good! However, even with all of the new places, the sausage and peppers will always be my favorite.

I read about the food there on Serious Eats. So jealous!

I'm an NBA (er, Laker) fan myself. Funny that's the only sport no one watches in your family.
